How do I pay my Self-Assessment tax bill?

You can pay by online bank transfer (Faster Payments, CHAPS or Bacs) using your UTR as reference, through your bank's own online or telephone banking, by debit card online, or via a budget payment plan set up in advance to spread the cost. HMRC no longer accepts payment by personal credit card, and cheques by post are slow and not recommended given the strict deadline. Always double-check you're using the correct HMRC bank account details, as scams mimicking HMRC payment requests are common.
