Q&A > VAT Registration

What is the VAT registration threshold?

I want a clear number so I can keep an eye on my turnover as my business grows.

The VAT registration threshold is currently £90,000 of VAT-taxable turnover in any rolling 12-month period, not a fixed tax-year window. There's also a deregistration threshold, currently £88,000, below which you can apply to leave the VAT scheme if your turnover falls. Because thresholds are reviewed and can change at Budgets, it's a good idea to double-check the current figure on GOV.UK or with your accountant when you're getting close to it.
